Singapore’s construction industry slowly but surely tackling cost, labour issues

Developments about China, another main source country meant for metals, have also worsened the supply crisis and fed price speculation in the market.

“So imaginable how the supply string disruption, the battle factor, the tension of US and China (relations), and control steps of COVID-19 in China… Things like that make the whole supply chain very difficult to manage as well as the prices are very risky, ” said Mr Tan.

Compounding the construction difficulties is the labour shortage.

Mr First tee Wei Kang, movie director of CHH Building & Security Systems, said the firm’s biggest problem is the attrition rate of the workers, with about one in 3 returning home after the edges reopened .

He described that before the pandemic, most workers were more skilled and experienced due to their age bracket.

“During the particular pandemic, especially throughout the circuit breaker, most of the workers grew a little tired of the limitations that were placed on all of them, no matter how necessary they were at the time, ” stated Mr Tee.
