- Regional accelerator seeks to invest US$100k every in 10 companies
- Participants receive expense before program instead of at its finish
What startup winter? Certainly Scaleup Malaysia did not get that memo. Hot off the heels of its successful three or more rd Cohort in March 2022, the fast emerging growth accelerator is announcing the start of its following cohort, called Cohort 2022 which will formally start in Q4 associated with 2022.
A notable enhancement to the ScaleUp Malaysia program is that it has grown investment in its startups to US$100, 1000 (MYR 440, 000) per company, which makes it one of the largest check sizes from a good accelerator in Southeast Asia. Participants may also be receiving investments from the accelerator before starting the program instead of in late the programme.
“We have been tremendously blessed to have worked with among the best companies in the region during the last three cohorts, ” notes Xelia Tong (pic) , Managing Partner. “This increase in our expense size upfront displays our belief that Malaysia and Southeast Asia have some really remarkable founders. Hopefully to support them on their journey. ”
Applicants who have apply for Cohort 2022 will also experience a fast turnaround time to understand if they will make this through. ScaleUp Malaysia aims to inform individuals of their acceptance and investment within five weeks of signing up to the program.
“We recognise this is a very precarious period for founders along with so much uncertainty using the economic situation in the region and round the world. This is why we now have streamlined our procedure to make sure that exceptional startups get funded rapidly so they hit the ground running and scale effectively, ” remarks Andre Sequerah (pic, below) , Managing Partner.
ScaleUp Malaysia has announced opportunities in 30 online companies since 2020 which includes Iimmpact, Fefifo, AOne, Homa and Guruinnovatif. With one get out of already under the belt and follow-on investments of up to 15x after the program, its top companies have seen the 300% increase in revenue since participating in ScaleUp Malaysia.
“We accept online companies from all industries and verticals but what is really important is that they need to demonstrate product-market-fit, a sizable market along with a compelling go-to-market plan, ” adds Andre. ScaleUp Malaysia not only accepts startups from Malaysia but from all over the world. Startups from 26 countries applied for its last cohort.
The accelerator furthermore notes that it has strong representation associated with female founders when compared to industry in general plus seeks to support more women entrepreneurs. “We’re really excited that over 40% of the startups we back have got female founders, ” remarks Xelia.
“They are smart, driven plus determined to make their particular mark. We are looking forward to helping more women really make a difference. ”
