PHUKET: On Friday, a Russian gentleman was detained in the resort area province’s Thalang area for working as an illegal tour guide.

Tourist authorities arrested Iakhia Guseinzade, 28, at a wharf on Pak Phra shore in tambon Mai Khao around 8am on Friday. When he was detained, he was about to transport some travellers to the Similan islands.

He was accused of working as a trip guide without authority, having a foreign national without a work permit, and having a career that is only available to Thai people.

He was turned over to the police station in Tha Chatchai for constitutional actions.

Tourist authorities have just launched a crackdown on illegal trip guides and tour companies that have been found acting without authorization, especially in tourist regions like Phuket.

A Hong Kong gentleman was detained on Tuesday and accused of operating a tour business and serving as a tour guide in Phuket.
