After the BMA was accused of abuse, Bangkok government Chadchart Sittipunt on Saturday defended the Klong Ong Ang control in the Samphanthawong area.

Mr. Chadchart reaffirmed that the region had not been left untreated as some had claimed.

After undergoing environment restoration during the tenure of previous government Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang, Klong Ong Ang became a monument with teeming walking street events taking place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

However, concerns about the canal’s deteriorating problems were just raised. There were reports of poor individuals using lines and not paying attention to the activities of walking the streets.

The government responded by saying that he thought it would be detrimental to the local community to bring in vendors from outside the place.

He suggested that the main goal should be to create the city’s unique distinctive identity to draw people, similar to what is done at Pak Klong Talat and Talat Noi.

We may discover a way to revitalize the place. We’re never neglecting it. Rather, we are expanding it to Klong Bang Lamphu. The area has to consider its advantages”, he said.

Sanon Wangsrangboon, the lieutenant governor of Bangkok, said the neighborhood community really take the lead in organizing events and that the BMA should be there to support the effort.

He added that Pohchang Academy of Art, Mega Plaza, and the Indian Association of Thailand have all expressed an interest in having activities and that the program may be responsible if supported by those who live and work along the river.

Nevertheless, he said the BMA may also host important occasions such as Songkran and Loy Krathong festivities.
