Doku expands into Malaysia through senangPay acquisition

In a statement, the Indonesian transaction platform said it acquired senangPay intended for US$7. 5 mil (RM33. 3 million).

It said the statement was made, after the company received funding from Apis Growth Fund II, a private equity fund handled by Apis Partners LLP last year.  

Doku’s chief operating official Nabilah Alsagoff said the recent purchase of senangPay marks the beginning of the company’s enlargement overseas and its attempts to reach a wider business segment, specifically small medium enterprises (SMEs).  

“As a leading payments provider within Indonesia with the widest suite of online and offline payments items serving over 150, 000 merchants, we all look forward to offering our own innovative products in order to similar businesses in Malaysia.

“We believe the opportunity to enter Malaysia is all the more attractive provided the similar socio-cultural backgrounds of our 2 countries, ” said Nabilah.

senangPay is an online payment gateway established in 2015, is certainly managed by Simplepay Gateway Sdn Bhd and registered along with Bank Negara Malaysia as a Merchant Acquiring Services provider.

The company can also be registered with Mastercard International as a Transaction Facilitator for the Asia Pacific region, this said.

As an online transaction gateway, senangPay mentioned it helps Malaysian businesses easily accept consumer payments through a selection of methods including credit score and debit cards, web banking and all main e-wallet providers in Malaysia.  

Through the Doku acquisition, senangPay mentioned it is planning to expand its services beyond online payment gateway and adopting brand new services such as e-wallet, remittance, and offline transactions such as Tap On Glass plus M2M (mobile to mobile), among others.

It added that these new offerings will enable its merchants to transition from brick-and-mortar models into the digital period, in line with the Malaysian government’s “Malaysia Digital” initiative.

“When we set up senangPay, we wanted to generate an alternative payment entrance for the small medium business, particularly to get business owners that lack technical skills and are also not familiar with digital tools, ” senangPay’s ceo, Mansor Abd Rahman said.

“I believe this acquisition is beneficial plus necessary for the company’s growth as well as for our own merchants. By shutting the gap involving the two countries, plus combining expertise from two companies, I expect to see significant improvements in areas we may have never expected, as well as in locations we wish to enhance, ” he additional.
