Carousell cuts 7% of total headcount in ‘strategic’ review

SINGAPORE: E-commerce platform Carousell announced on Friday ( Dec 6 ) that it is cutting 76 roles across its regional offices, or 7 per cent of the group’s total headcount.

A Carousell spokeswoman said that the reorganization was made actively to change our group’s tactical choices to reflect the market realities in some business units and to redirect resources where they are promising.

These changes aim to ensure the bank’s “long-term conservation and functional efficiency”, the spokesperson added.

In response to CNA’s questions, Carousell said that about 60 per cent of the damaged jobs are based in Singapore, with the remaining multiply across its different agencies. &nbsp,

Headquartered in Singapore, Carousell has agencies across eight sites in Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan. &nbsp,

According to the company, the damaged positions were in both the business and technology sectors.

Quek Siu Rui, the director, gave the news to all people of the cutbacks in a town house on Friday night. A human assets representative and their respective department heads each spoke to the affected employees separately.

Reimbursement &amp, SUPPORT

The affected employees may receive a week’s salary for each year of services, according to a Carousell spokesperson, and the company will make sure that each will receive “at least three months of payment.” &nbsp,

They will be able to cash out the shares after receiving their flexible benefits and paid time off, and those who possess business shares through an employee stock ownership plan will include their compensation period extended to allow for greater cash-out flexibility.

The company does, where possible, provide health and insurance protection for the injured workers and their relatives until June 2025.

Along with its talent acquisition team, it will also provide counseling for emotional and mental support for disrupted staff members.

Different forms of support include a yearly payment on union membership costs for the following year and allowing damaged employees to keep their laptops at work.

The Carousell spokesperson stated that” we remain committed to working closely with the Creative Media and Publishing Union ( CMPU) to ensure that all impacted employees receive fair compensation packages and are given the necessary support during their transition period.”

The aid includes” work matching services and&nbsp, career expert resources to help them secure their future career opportunity.”
