Bill on anti-party hopping to be tabled in Malaysian parliament soon, law could come into force by September

KUALA LUMPUR: A good anti-party hopping Bill will be tabled whenever Malaysian parliament sits from next Mon (Jul 18) and when passed, the law can come into force simply by September, said sobre facto law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.  

In a declaration released on Wednesday, Dr Wan Junaidi said the bipartisan select committee shaped to look into the enactment of anti-party jumping law had complete the draft costs and examined the particular draft statement upon Wednesday.    

The Bill and the committee’s report will be laid to the MPs’ tables next Monday, he said.  

“The plan is for the particular Bill to be discussed on Jul 27 and Jul twenty-eight in the Lower House, but this is at the discretion of the Reduced House speaker, ” he said.  

A two-thirds majority is needed to move the constitutional change.

Dr Wan Junaidi added that once the Bill is usually passed at the Lower House and Higher House, it will be presented to the king among Aug 11 and Aug 26, which the law could be gazetted between Aug 29 and Sep 2 .  

He or she also noted that will some Cabinet people had raised queries regarding the Bill and these queries have been tackled by the select committee.
