PASIR GUDANG: A total of 38 tankers are being used to supply water to thousands of people in 70 residential areas here as SAJ Ranhill Sdn Bhd continues its efforts to fix two pipes that burst two days ago.

State works, transportation and infrastructure committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said that the water utility company had been working round-the-clock to fix the pipes that burst on Thursday (Oct 27) when upgrading works were carried out.

“A total of 100,000 account holders were affected after the pipes burst and currently about 43,000 are still experiencing water disruptions.

“We have been able to bring water back to about 60,000 account holders by diverting water from other pipes,” he said at a press conference at the site on Sunday (Oct 30).

He added that of the 38 tankers, 17 were from SAJ Ranhill, two were from the Fire and Rescue Department, five were from private companies and 14 were from other states.

“The 38 tankers may not be enough to supply water to all of the affected areas and we will look into providing more tankers.

“We hope that the pipes can be fixed as soon as possible,” he said, adding that a landslide on Saturday (Oct 29) had also caused a delay in the repairs.

Among those who were affected by the water disruption was Nurrashidah Abdul Rashid who lives in Taman Megah Ria.

“The tanks in our homes ran out of water this morning (Oct 30) and even shops around this area have run out of mineral water,” she said.

Nurrashidah added that people have been waiting outside their homes with buckets to get water from the tankers.

“I hope that more tankers could be deployed to bring water as the amount of water supplied is limited, causing some to fight over the limited resource,” she said.
