ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s interior ministry said on Wednesday ( Apr 17 ) it blocked access to social media platform X around the time of February’s election on national security concerns, confirming a long-suspected shutdown.
Since mid-February, people have reported issues with using X, the country’s version of Twitter, in Pakistan, but the government has not made any official presentations.
In a written obedience to the court on Wednesday, the internal government mentioned the closure.
The state of Pakistan’s failure to follow the constitutional instructions of its country and address concerns about the use of its platform led to the imposition of a ban, according to the report, which was available to Reuters.
It stated that X had been hesitant to solve the problem. On Wednesday, X did not respond to a Reuters request for comment soon.
According to the report,” the decision to ban Twitter/X in Pakistan was made in the interests of upholding regional security, maintaining open order, and protecting the integrity of our country.”
Since the Feb 8 federal election, which the gathering of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan claims was rigged, exposure to X has remained constrained.
