The second marine park in Singapore was established in 2014, and it covers 40 ha in the Sisters ‘ Islands and along St. John’s Island’s and Pulau Tekukor’s northern islands. &nbsp,

The location was chosen because of the site’s numerous environments, including coral reefs, grass meadows, and sandy beaches. &nbsp,

According to NParks, Sisters ‘ Islands Marine Park’s ecosystems are comparable to those at Lazarus Island and Kusu Island. &nbsp,

So, “designating these areas as Singapore’s next marine park will help NParks to better preserve and manage both the terrestrial and marine habitats, and enhance natural connectivity”, it said. &nbsp,

This will help to prevent Singapore’s key biodiversity areas and develop their climatic and ecological endurance, it added. &nbsp,

A second marine park is a part of the organization’s holistic conservation plan, according to NParks, and it is in line with the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s ( URA ) plans to preserve the Southern Islands ‘ character while making them more inclusive and accessible for recreation.

Over the course of the second quarter of 2024, the legislative board added that it would carefully examine and determine the boundaries of the proposed marine park in consultation with the appropriate organizations and stakeholders, including URA and Friends of Marine Park. &nbsp,
