Singapore Airlines stops using Iranian airspace as ‘precautionary measure’ amid Middle East tensions

SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines ( SIA ) said on Sunday ( Apr 14 ) that it has stopped using Iranian airspace, calling it a “precautionary measure” amid the situation in the Middle East. &nbsp,

The Israel- Hamas battle is in danger of escalating into a wider issue, after&nbsp, Iran launched more than 200 drones and rockets at Israel since Saturday, according to the Jewish war.

Iran threatened retribution following a rumored Jewish attack on April 1 that left two generals dead, along with seven members of the aristocracy Revolutionary Guards in Syria.

In response to CNA’s queries, Singapore Airlines ( SIA ) said:” As a precautionary measure, &nbsp, with effect&nbsp, from 1300hrs ( Singapore time ) on Apr 13, 2024, all Singapore Airlines and Scoot flights stopped&nbsp, overflying&nbsp, Iranian air space and used alternative flight paths. &nbsp,

We are closely monitoring the Middle East position, and we will change our travel patterns as needed.

The walk by SIA mirrored that of some other carriers, including&nbsp, European airline Lufthansa and its subsidiary Austrian Airlines. &nbsp,

Lufthansa announced on Friday that its planes would no longer fly over Egyptian airport as a result of a suspension for flights to and from Iran’s funds. &nbsp,

” Due to the current scenario, Lufthansa is suspending its airlines to and from Tehran up to and including Thursday, Apr 18,” a company spokesperson said.

” The flight is also no more using Egyptian airspace.”

Since April 6, planes to Tehran have been canceled.

While&nbsp, Lufthansa did not specify the reasons for the suspension, Austrian Airlines said it took the measure due to the&nbsp” ,the current situation in the Middle East”.

” For Austrian Airlines, the health of its people and crews has major concern. On a daily basis, the Middle East’s scenario is being evaluated. To this conclusion, Austrian is in close contact with the government, “it said.

Meanwhile, Israel and neighbouring Jordan, which lies between Iraq and Israel, said on Saturday evening that they were closing their aircraft.

Since the April 1 attack in Syria, Iran had threatened to retaliate, blaming Israel as the attacker. &nbsp,

Since the conflict in the Gaza Strip started last October, Israel has increased its attacks against Iran-linked targets in Syria.
