Philippines seizes 1.8 tonnes of meth in drug bust

MANILA: The Philippines has seized 1. 8 tonnes of crystal methamphetamine, President Ferdinand Marcos said Tuesday ( Apr 16 ), describing the bust as a record and the “right approach” to the drug war.

Officers found the unlawful drugs, estimated to be worth more than US$ 230 million, on Monday during a research of a vehicle in Batangas province, north of Manila. The vehicle was arrested.

On Tuesday, Marcos inspected the medicine pull and declared it to be the “biggest package of shabu always caught” in the Philippines.

Cheap, very addictive crystal meth is known locally as Shabu. If it was a report amount or a large amount of drugs, it was unclear.

” But not one man died, no single died, no shootout, no one got injured,” Marcos told reporters.

” We did the function properly. That’s the proper strategy, for me, that should be the method in the drug war. “

Marcos claimed the drugs were not made directly, but authorities were able to trace the origin of the drugs.

Thousands of people were killed in anti-drug procedures under previous president Rodrigo Duterte, launching a global investigation into alleged human rights violations.
