Brunei inks pacts to boost trade, tourism

On Monday, Brunei and Thailand signed two memoranda of understandings regarding business and tourism cooperation.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first was a collaboration between the Thai Government Pension Fund ( GPF ) and the Brunei Investment Agency ( BIA ), and the second was a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei.

At the conclusion of a two-day standard visit, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di- Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin witnessed the drafting of the MoUs.

After lengthy discussions at Government House, they expressed satisfaction with the two countries ‘ long-standing polite relationships and reiterated their commitment to more strengthening cooperation in socially beneficial places. Additionally, they exchanged their opinions on local issues of common interest. &nbsp,

They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening participation in business, investment, the muslim industry, tourism, the modern economy and people- to- people exchanges through existing diplomatic mechanisms. &nbsp,

They also agreed to keep in touch with one another to advance economic cooperation by creating a system at the coverage level to develop concrete action plans for promoting bilateral trade and economic assistance, and they also requested that the appropriate organizations speak up further about the subject.

They also agreed to develop tourism assistance, including through the” Six Countries, One Destination” scheme, a pilot proposed by Thailand to promote local tourism cooperation and even agreed to cooperate in health and wellness tourism, ecotourism and Muslim- pleasant tourism. In contrast, both sides would work towards expanding journey roads from Brunei to Thailand.

They furthermore exchanged their opinions on significant regional developments of common interest and reiterated their support for Asean importance.

In terms of developments in Myanmar, the leaders shared the vision of a quiet, steady, and united nation and demanded that all parties come to an agreement through constructive dialogue to reach a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned solution. Brunei even welcomed Thailand’s action to scale up charitable assistance.
