DETERRING THE NORTH’S RISING Challenges
While Mr. Shin thinks a full-fledged war may not be in order, he claimed South Korea is prepared to deal with North Korean actions or penetration attempts.
The region, along with the US, is looking at unpleasant measures in response to the evolving challenges.  ,
Important special operations leaders from South Korea and the US met last month to discuss ways to improve their special warfare skills.  ,
They discussed employing special operations capabilities more aggressively rather than competitively, sharing operating doctrines, and improving the portability of weapons systems, said Mr Shin, who hosted the unusual appointment.
Both countries also spoke about how to take the systems of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including artificial knowledge, and increase potential specific functional capabilities.
These tactics might be used for joint military exercises between Seoul and Washington this summertime.  ,
” The general framework remains intact. The content of this model has been changed to concentrate on North Korea’s increased nuclear and missile threats, according to Mr. Shin.  ,
” Also, new forms of war- such as hybrid war, mental warfare and grey zone provocations- have been incorporated into the exercises. This includes both government and joint military exercises, which makes a significant difference.
According to Mr. Shin, South Korea contributes to its close cooperation with the US by paying about US$ 2.7 billion annually to support American troops stationed there.
