Mt Ruang: Last eruptions before Wednesday occurred in 2002, 1949

PETALING JAYA: The last eruption of Mount Ruang in Sulawesi, Indonesia, before Wednesday ( April 17 ) was in 2002, according to the Smithsonian Institution.

According to the website of the National Museum of Natural History’s International Volcanoes Programme, the most recent confirmed eruption occurred on September 25, 2002, about Sept 29, 2002.

Due to this, Mount Ruang’s next proved explosion was from Jan 5 to nearly Jan 19, 1949.

The mountain even erupted from May 29, 1914 to an estimated end-date of Feb 28, 1915.

According to Indonesia’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation, the mountain on the northeastern part of Sulawesi area has experienced at least five significant explosions in the most recent occurrence.

At least 800 people left the area on Wednesday after the government raised the mountain update to its highest degree.

Additionally, tourists and others have been instructed to stay for at least 6 kilometers ( 3 ). 7 miles ) from the 725-metre ( 2,378 foot ) Ruang volcano.

Officials are concerned that a portion of the volcano was crumble into the sea and trigger a tsunami, similar to the one that occurred in Tagulandang island, north of Mt. Ruang, in 1871, when about 400 people died there.

Among those being told to leave the area are people who are on the beach.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency said people will be relocated to Manado, the nearest town, on Sulawesi area, a trip of six days by ship.

430 people were killed when Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau volcano’s explosion in 2018 caused a tsunami along Sumatra and Java’s coasts when parts of the rock fell into the sea, killing all.

Indonesia, an island of 270 million citizens, has 120 active volcanoes. Because it is located along the” Ring of Fire,” a series of seismic fault lines shaped like horseshoes that encircle the Pacific Ocean, it is prone to volcanic activity.
