- There will be a 12-hour activation period when switching devices
- Maybank will also introduce a Kill Switch feature for debit cards soon
All Secure2u authorisations will be moved to Maybank’s MAE app on 1st July 2023, the single point of authorisation through the MAE app which is tied to one device per account.
This means that from 1 July, Secure2u through the MAE app will be the only platform to approve transactions made from M2U web, M2U app, MAE app and for online transactions made for Maybank cards. MAE customers are encouraged to update their app.
This security measure comes with a one-time 12-hour activation period when customers enable Secure2u on the MAE app for the first time or on a different device. This is meant to prevent unauthorised transaction approvals. During this time, no transactions requiring Secure2u authorisation can be done. Maybank urges their customers to move to Secure2u as soon as possible.
Maybank will also add the ability to temporarily block their Maybank debit card usage on the MAE app by June 2023. This Kill Switch feature is already available for temporarily deactivating Maybank2u access and block credit card usage on the MAE app and Maybank2u website since February 2023.
The initiative to move Secure2u to the MAE app is also in support to Bank Negara’s direction for banks to migrate from One Time Passwords (OTP) via SMS to more secure ways to authenticate transactions.
