Tokyo: As part of a new round of sanctions against individuals and groups supporting Russia’s war on Ukraine, Japan imposed trade restrictions on China-based businesses, according to a statement released on Friday ( Jun 21 ).
The new restrictions even target firms in India, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. According to Japan’s foreign ministry, this is the first moment Japan has imposed sanctions on China-based businesses in connection with the war in Ukraine.
Among the companies targeted by the government are China-based Yilufa Electronics Limited and Hong Kong-based Asia Pacific Links Ltd, which provided electronics for Russian robots.
The sanctions forbid Chinese companies from exporting to the intended firms, which are in line with earlier measures put in place by other nations, including the United States.
According to US leaders, China is supporting Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine by providing drone and missile systems for Moscow’s largest military expansion since the Russian time.
Next year, the US stepped up its sanctions against Russia, including targeting China-based businesses that sell semiconductors to Moscow.
Beijing and Moscow are even making difficult decisions to ensure that diplomatic payments are made, which could sanction some Chinese financial institutions.
