SURAT THANI: A tourist from the Netherlands, who broke their left ankle during a mountain trek in the island region of Koh Phangan on Saturday, was brought down to protection by rescuers late in the night, authorities said.
The Dutchman, January Harm Kedde, 48, accompanied by a male compatriot, at about 1pm began climbing the Hat Khom mountain from Moo 7 community in tambon Ko Phangan. The peak offers a magnificent ocean view.
At about 3pm, the person accidentally slipped and fell on the rock and roll, breaking his still left ankle.
On receiving a call for help, the Ko Phangan rescue center dispatched a group of rescuers, associated with tourist police and personnel from the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office. These people arrived at the spot around 4pm and gave the Dutchman first-aid treatment.
The rescuers carried the injured visitor down the mountain on the stretcher. They reached Hat Khom beach after about 2 and a half hours.
They travelled further in a long-tail broad for about 30 minutes before landing in a boat pier with Moo 7 village. The injured guy was then transported by ambulance to First Western Hospital Koh Phangan, where they arrived at regarding 10pm.
