Indiafest eyes ‘Look East’ policy

The Native indian embassy will organise a second edition from the “Northeast India Festival” in Thailand this particular weekend to promote the culture and commemorate 75 years of bilateral ties.

Suchitra Durai, Indian native ambassador to Thailand, said the event is one of the key activities related to the Indian government’s “Look East” plan, which was launched in 1992 to tighten its partnership with Southeast Asian countries.

It was first held in Thailand in 2019 before hitting the two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, she mentioned.

This year’s event will be bigger as the charge is bringing associates and performances through eight northeastern Native indian states to display the country’s cultural diversity and attractiveness, she added.

Northeast India “has a traditional connection with Southeast Asia”, she said.

“This advertising of the northeast area is extremely important. It is a crucial complement of our ‘Act East’ policy, and we are extremely happy that here in Thailand we’ve been able to launch, not merely the first-ever Northeast India festival outdoors India, but [also a second edition], ” the girl added.

She said modern performances, arts, style, tourism and songs will be organised in the venue to entice young travellers and teach them more about the region and country.

“The northeast region… includes a huge attraction in terms of tourism, especially for young adults who love experience, to enjoy the mountainous area or wildlife, ” she stated.

The big event will run from July 30–31 on Centara Grand on CentralWorld.
