IKEA recalls Varmfront power banks over fire hazard risk

SINGAPORE: The Swedish furniture manufacturer advised IKEA customers who purchased particular Varmfront power banks to stop using them immediately and seek refunds, according to a statement released on Wednesday ( Jul 17 ).

According to IKEA, “it has been discovered that some Varmfront energy banks may cause a fire safety risk as a result of a production mistake.”

Customers who own a Varmfront power bank 10 400 mAh ( model number E2038 ) with date stamp ( YYWW) 2313, 2316, 2318 or 2319, or a Varmfront power bank 5 200 mAh ( model number E2037 ) with date stamp ( YYWW) 2318, 2319 or 2322, are advised to immediately stop using it, and contact IKEA for a refund.

Varmfront energy banks with another meeting stamps are not affected by the remember, according to IKEA, and the problem is only specific to those special units.

Customers may check the printers on the back of their strength banks to verify whether their device is affected.

A full of 36 affected products have been sold in Singapore, with no situations having been reported so far, IKEA added.

Any Lego retailer that accepts the damaged power banks will be able to return them for a complete refund. A certificate will not be required.

The company stated that” IKEA products are risk assessed and extensively tested to ensure that they can withstand the challenging tests of daily life at home and that they adhere to appropriate requirements and regulations in all of its markets.”
