Heatstroke killed 33 Indian polling workers on last voting day: State election chief

A top election official reported on Sunday ( Jun 2 ), in Lucknow, India, that at least 33 Indian polling workers died from heatstroke on the final day of voting in just one state after scorching temperatures swept across large areas of the nation.

The dozens of team members dying in a single day is a particularly concerning toll, despite reports of numerous deaths as a result of the extreme heatwave, which has frequently reached temperatures above 45 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to the India Meteorological Department ( IMD), the temperatures in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, reached 46.9 degrees Celsius.

In the state of Uttar Pradesh’s northern state, where ballot in the sixth and final phase of elections ended on Saturday, general political officer Navdeep Rinwa claimed 33 polling personnel lost their lives as a result of the heat.

Security personnel and sanitary personnel were among the figures.

” A monetary compensation of 1.5 million rupees ( US$ 18, 000 ) will be provided to the families of the deceased”, Rinwa told reporters.

According to experts, intense heat contact thickens a person’s body and causes organs to shut down when they are dehydrated.
