DPM Heng Swee Keat to be first Asia-Pacific leader to speak at WELT Economic Summit

Heng Swee Keat, the deputy prime minister of Singapore, will give the forum’s keynote address on Monday ( Jan 27 ) as the first Asia-Pacific leader to address the event.

Mr Heng is making a working visit to Berlin from Jan 26 to Jan 31, the Prime Minister’s Office ( PMO ) said on Sunday. &nbsp,

The WELT Economic Summit, which is now in its 16th model, is a gathering place for business and government leaders to discuss pressing economic and political issues. &nbsp,

Another guests include German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, &nbsp, president of the European Parliament&nbsp, Roberta Metsola and secretary-general of the World Liberty Congress&nbsp, Leopoldo Lopez.

During his visit to Berlin, Mr Heng may join senior political and economic officials, as well as members of European firms. He may even employ research institutes and start-up organizations.

In contrast, he will go a Chinese New Year greeting for international Singaporeans, hosted by the Singapore Embassy in Berlin.

The sheriff prime minister’s visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Singapore and Germany. &nbsp,

” It also takes place after the launching of the Germany-Singapore Strategic Partnership in November 2024, which did pave the way for both sides to strengthen cooperation, especially in emerging places like AI and sustainability”, said the PMO.

Mr Heng may be&nbsp, accompanied by officers from the PMO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, the Economic Development Board and Enterprise Singapore.
