Biden plans November meeting with China's Xi: Report

WASHINGTON: The Washington Post reported on Thursday( Oct 5) that the White House is preparing for a face-to-face conference between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in San Francisco next month in an effort to calm tense relations between the two nations.

Taiwan, the causes of the COVID-19 crisis, claims of espionage, human rights concerns, and business tariffs are just a few examples of issues that have caused tensions between the world’s two largest economy in recent years.

Older unnamed US officials were quoted by the newspapers, and one of them said that the likelihood of a meeting was” quite firm.”

The standard was cited by the news as saying,” We’re beginning the approach” of planning.

The meeting had come after another significant interactions between the two nations in recent months, such as US ambassadors to China in June, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in July, and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in August.

Blinken just met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in New York, and Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister, was met in Malta by US national security advisor Jake Sullivan.

When asked for opinion on the Washington Post review, the Chinese embassy in Washington did not respond right away. The White House was unable to reply right away.

The G20 summit in Indonesia in November 2022, which was Biden and Xi’s first in-person conference since he was elected president, was where they last met. Before Biden took office, they had five phone and video meeting conversations.

Any conference between Xi and Biden would focus on the United States” showing enough sincerity ,” according to a suggestion made last month by China’s top protection agency.

Although Beijing has expressed worry over US acceptance of wings sales and military funding to Taiwan, US officials like Raimondo and Yellen have recently stated that the US did not want to detach from China.

In November, San Francisco will host an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation ( APEC ) summit that Xi might attend. Biden attended the G20 mountain in New Delhi, but Xi just skipped it. & nbsp,
