SINGAPORE: Amazon plans to invest an additional S$ 12 billion ( US$ 8.88 billion ) in Singapore over the next four years to expand its cloud computing infrastructure in the country.  ,
This is to meet , growing customer demand for cloud technology and services in Singapore, Amazon Web Services ( AWS ) said on Tuesday ( May 7 ).
The additional funding adds to the S$ 11.5 billion that AWS has already committed to the Asia-Pacific place through 2023.
AWS’ full planned investment in its current cloud infrastructure will double to more than S$ 23 billion by 2028, according to a press release from AWS.
AWS, the sky computing shoulder of Amazon, launched in Singapore in 2010- its second growth outside the United States and Europe.
Tan Kiat How, Singapore’s senior minister of state for contacts and details, welcomed the extra funding. He cited AWS as a significant contributor to the development of Singapore’s digital economy ecosystem.
At the 10th AWS ASEAN Summit in Singapore, Mr. Tan stated,” Cloud service providers enable businesses to simply access online resources like assess and storage, as well as innovative capabilities like AI.”
He noted that Singapore’s modern economy generated S$ 106 billion worth of value- add to the market, accounting for about 17 per cent of the region’s nominal GDP in 2022.

There are now about 210, 000 technical professionals in Singapore, a 4.7 per cent increase over the last five decades, Mr Tan said, noting that about seven in 10 of these employees are citizens.
Amazon hires more than 2, 000 workers across its business models in Singapore including its cloud service, activities, shipping and data executive team.
According to AWS ‘ economic impact study, its planned investment is expected to contribute about S$ 23.7 billion to Singapore’s GDP. Through 2028, it is anticipated to provide more than 12,300 jobs for AWS and other businesses that use its services.
