Latest make an effort to rein in actions of notorious Kings Romans group linked to trafficking and mistreatment
Authorities within northern Laos have got called on companies in the Chinese-run Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to stop hiring Lao ladies to work as “chat girls” in an effort to suppress abuses, including human being trafficking.

A gambling plus tourism hub catering mainly to Chinese patrons, the SEZ was established in 2007 by Zhao Wei, a Chinese language tycoon who has been sanctioned by the US government on accusations that he heads a trafficking network.

RFA reported earlier this year that Zhao recently toured Saravan province in the southern part of Laos and met with the provincial chief excutive “to discuss associated with developing an airport terminal and investing in a number of agricultural and travel and leisure development projects”.
Zhao’s online casino zone has also been accused of involvement within the flourishing Golden Triangle drug trade, and has been connected to the trafficking of endangered animals through and within the zone.
The Golden Triangle SEZ is the “ worst specific economic zone ” in the world, a business intelligence firm said earlier this year.
“The Golden Triangle SEZ in Laos is mired within scandal and criminality, but the silence through SEZ authorities around the matter is deafening, ” wrote Thibault Serlet, director of research at the Adrianople Group.
