A 60-year-old New Zealander was detained in Pattaya on Friday after overstaying his immigration by almost six years, according to authorities.
The New Zealander, identified as Grant Douglas Corrine, was caught outside a convenience store near Jomtien Beach, said Pol Lt Col Weerachai Thinkhamut, director of the Immigration Officers for Chon Buri state.
He claimed that the imprisonment was a result of an “X-ray” procedure that aims to expel Thai citizens who have been reported as breaking into their homes or stealing their jobs.
Upon imprisonment, Mr Corrine was found to had overstayed his card for a total of 2, 173 time.
He admitted to the police that he had avoided making local acquaintances and had avoided public transportation for almost six times.
He also admitted that he had made it a habit to leave his house only on the weekends to make purchases when necessary to prevent getting in trouble with regulators.
He is currently going through legal proceedings in Pattaya before being deported after authorities have informed him of his infraction.
