General Assembly ( GA ), a resource for tech training, staffing, and career transitions, collaborates with Singapore-based The Codette Project, a non-profit organization that offers social and economic opportunities for Muslim and minority women to break into the tech industry in an effort to address the gender gap in technology on International Girls in ICT Day ( April 25 ).
Now, despite significant contributions to advancing the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) areas – people constitute just 29.2 percentage of all STEM employees. According to The Codette Project and GA, their goal is to create an inclusive and diverse area where each woman and girl has the opportunity to flourish and bring her own unique talents and perspectives.
The two functions will host a jointly-hosted technical job skills workshop for the Singaporean community in order to more open doors for women in technology and enable them to break barriers.
The interactive workshop” Navigating the Tech Job Market,” which will take place on May 3rd, 2024 at 7 pm, will provide individuals with valuable insight into the various entry-level positions in the tech industry, including junior positions as software engineers, information experts, and UX manufacturers, as well as the essential skills needed for these career paths. Additionally covered will be discussed potential opportunities for upskilling, helpful advice for job searches, and strategies to overcome common obstacles that minority groups face in tech careers and job searches. After the workshop, participants can socialise with one another, forge valuable connections, and exchange insights and experiences in a supportive environment.
The Codette Project’s founder, Nurul Jihadah Hussain, stated,” We believe that reducing inequality and improving the outcomes for women in tech is key to reducing inequality and improving outcomes in growing sectors like tech. This is especially important in the modern digital era, where the value of technology is growing, promoting innovation and economic growth.
In addition, General Assembly will provide five complimentary seats for their workshops to The Codette Project beneficiaries as a part of this partnership. These seats will provide them access to General Assembly’s one- day beginner- friendly workshops on fundamentals of coding, UX design, product management and more. This will enable them to research various in-demand tech fields, discover their passions, and make the first steps in the direction of advancing their careers in the dynamic tech sector.
