Germany spying: Three suspected Chinese agents arrested

Three persons have been detained in Germany on suspicion of spying for China, according to German government.

The Chinese Ministry of State Security ( MSS) is accused of spying on the main suspect, Thomas R.

His system, according to the prosecution, owned a forward company that collaborated with German research institutes.

The accused are alleged to have gathered sensitive information to move on to China, including designs for engines suited for use on battle ships.

According to the German government, Thomas R. obtained “innovative technologies for defense use” on behalf of an MSS staff. They allege he allegedly communicated with persons in science and research through a top business run by the two additional suspects, Herwig F and Ina F.

It is said that a second job involving the functioning of high-performance coastal engines for combat ships has already been completed.

The accused were allegedly engaged in more negotiations with the Chinese army about tasks that might be useful, according to prosecution.

The detention took place in the eastern European states of Hesse and North-Rhine-Westphalia, they added.

The three defendants are even accused of exporting a light to China, which is banned under EU “dual use” requirements. Certain nations are prohibited from sending products to them for military and civilian uses under the rules.

Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said the arrests were a “great victory for our intelligence”.

She continued,” The area that is particularly sensitive in the current situation is innovative German systems that can be used for military purposes.”

Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Beijing a week later, where he raised concerns like China’s aid for Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.

Additionally, they come days after two alleged spies were detained in Bavaria, a southern European state, on suspicion of plotting to sabotage European military support for Ukraine.
