Vivian Balakrishnan, Tan Wu Meng among MPs who received extortion letters with fake photos

Dr Balakrishnan’s brother MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, Mr Chia, was among those who were targeted by the “distressing letters”.

He claimed that the increase of “deepfakes” makes it “harder to distinguish fact from fiction, despite it being not remarkable for public numbers to confront extortion scams.”

In a Facebook video on Saturday, Dr Tan ,  An MP for Jurong GRC claimed to have also received a letter containing “fake images and dangers.”

He stated that he does not want to make up any doubts about the conspirators ‘ identities or their locations, whether in Singapore or abroad.

” I’d instead not surmise on why this is happening now, at a very important day in Singapore’s history. But let me say this: We are never worried. And we wo n’t let anyone stop us from carrying out our duties, he continued.

The officers gave open members the following advice. overlook any instructions to make transfers or establish communications if they have received them.

Additionally, they are urged to immediately report the situation to the authorities and to return the email to them in a separate storage bag.
