Worry, fear weigh heavily on those in Singapore with loved ones in Myanmar

From no withdrawal limitations previously, those within Myanmar can now just withdraw up to the equivalent of S$300 every week.

Over in Clementi, eatery Little Myanmar confronts a different set of problems – getting a continuous supply of ingredients for a few of his dishes.  

“Picked tea, pickled ginger, there’s only in Myanmar, no other location. So , I have to pull in from Myanmar, ” Mr Kway Lin said.  

“Some from the occasions, I had a little (of) difficulties, yet I tried to substitute with the local components, ” he added.

HELP FOR THAT COUNTRY

Those who spoke to CNA said that they have been assisting Myanmar, which has been in the news following the second anniversary of the military coup, by contributing cash through non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Just for Ms Mo, her family started raising funds to provide monetary help and humanitarian education assistance for those impacted.

The Myanmar community here came back to help, she additional.  

“I’m quite happy to be part of it as well. I believe everybody has tried their best during this period of time (to help), ” she said.  

Ms Mo observed that elements seem to be better on her friends and family members in Myanmar, although they are far from returning to life before the coup.  

“They want to move to another country to get a better future, (but) I think it’s still very difficult, ” the lady said.

“I think there’s nevertheless a long way to go to reach the state where people can fully become free again, I would say, ” the lady added.
