The Supreme Court has upheld a lower court’s 12- time jail sentence, without expulsion, for a person who stole 24 million ringgit from her tired, old mother.
The Supreme Court’s ruling against Mawadee Sriwirat, 57, was read out in the Phra Khanong Criminal Court on Wednesday.
Mawadee was accused by her mom, Huai Sriwirat, 86, of stealing 24 million ringgit from her saving accounts through hundreds of small transactions.
Mawadee used her mother’s biometric instead of her name to make the payments, which began in 2017, without Ms Huai’s acceptance but with the help of bank employees.  ,
While Ms. Huai was receiving treatment for coronary disease in a hospital, the illegal withdrawals took place.  ,
In February 2019, the lower court admitted the case and found Mawadee guilty of six embezzlement counts. it sentenced her to 12 years in prison without suspension.  ,
She took advantage of her fragile health and robbed her mother of significant sums of money, according to the court, and she had committed severe crimes against her mother. The Appeal Court upheld the sentence, as has the Supreme Court.
