With amenities lacking near their new flats, former Tanglin Halt residents keep going back

That was why the lady was pleasantly surprised in June when the girl saw a banner ad strung up in the pick-up point where she would wait for the FaithActs minivan. This said Queenstown grassroots organisations were providing a free bus services to take Margaret Drive residents to Tanglin Halt on weekend mornings.

Implemented at the suggestion of Eric Chua, the Member of Parliament for the area, the particular service runs on 45-minute intervals through 7am to 10am. It was piloted upon Sunday mornings yet has since already been extended to Saturdays as well.

The service, he stated, was initiated partly for reasons of convenience, partly regarding nostalgia and partly to benefit the merchants and hawkers who are still operating within Tanglin Halt.

He sees, normally, 50 to sixty residents making use of the services every Sunday.

It is slated to operate until the end of this month, but it can be “entirely possible” that it could be extended, he said. “We’ll consult residents before choosing. ”
