Vietnam death toll from Typhoon Yagi at 141 as Hanoi faces flood risk

The government issued a warning on Wednesday ( Sep 11 ) that the death toll from Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam was 141, warning that the Red River’s rapid rise was threatening to inundate the capital Hanoi’s downtown districts.

The disaster management agency reported that 141 people were killed and 59 others were missing as a result of Typhoon Yagi’s heavy rains that have caused dangerous landslides and floods throughout northeastern Vietnam. Additionally, there have been significant house destruction and disruptions to businesses and industries.

State media studies from delayed on Tuesday claimed that the Red River in Hanoi’s water level had been rising 10 cm per hour.

According to sources, the government, and state media, thousands of residents living in low-lying sections have been evacuated while some schools in Hanoi have instructed students to be home for the rest of the week due to concerns about flooding.
