SINGAPORE: Law Society chief executive Adrian Tan stated on Thursday (Jul 28) that he had been diagnosed with cancer within March, just months after he has been elected to the posting in January.
Mr Bronze, a partner and head of intellectual home and technology on TSMP Law Company, said in a submit on professional social networking site LinkedIn that he started feeling sick in February.
“At first, I brushed it off, ” he said. “I carried on along with speeches, interviews, meetings and working to the night. ”
He then “felt therefore bad” in March and saw a physician.
“He told me I had cancer, ” he said. “I was stunned. ”
Mr Bronze did not mention what type of cancer he has, or how severe his condition is.
Following his analysis, Mr Tan began immediately on an aggressive treatment regime, which involved chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormone treatment. He also needed to avoid people plus stress as his immune system became compromised.
“I was confronted with two queries, ” he mentioned. “First, should I stop working?
“That had been easy for me in order to answer… I need to try with my group, towards a common objective. When the clock runs out, and the game ends, I want to feel that, win or reduce, I gave the best, and that I am standing on the field with my friends and comrades.
“That was your path I decided to go with. I would fight malignancy, fight my instances in court, plus fight for lawyers as their president, until the clock runs out. ”
Mr Bronze said he had informed the Law Society associated with his diagnosis, because “its members selected me, they have a right to know about my ability to carry out my duties”.
He also informed his colleagues at TSMP Law Corporation, as well as his closest friends.
“I hadn’t prepared to tell anyone else, ” he said, but added that he has since changed their mind.
“I’ve had to turn down numerous invitations to give speeches, attend events or even meet in person. A lot of concerned people have asked about me. Some possess heard inaccurate balances of my problem.
“Under this kind of circumstances, and provided my position, it is best for me to be open. ”
He noted that he had “many plans” at the start of the 12 months, including raising the particular morale of lawyers and stemming the “great resignation”in the particular legal industry.
“I would enhance the image of the profession by showcasing its pro bono work in the city, ” he said. “I would force for technology ownership, so that we could have virtual law firms. ”
Mr Color added that he seemed to be looking to continue as a litigator and battle cases in courtroom. “I had planned to have the busiest year of my life, ” he said.
Within April, he defended the particular legal profession after it was criticised over a situation involving trainee lawyers who cheated within the Bar exams, calling the comments “misguided”.
