In a bid to put Wat Arun on the Cautious List of World Heritage sites, the Culture Ministry did post pertinent documentation to the Unesco World Heritage Center in Paris this quarter.

After a case meeting yesterday, Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol revealed that acceptance had been given for the distribution of Wat Arun’s classic main prang for inclusion on Unesco’s World Heritage Tentative List.

According to Ms. Sudawan, the tower is an exceptional example of Buddhist phra prang, or high tower, architecture, and it is woven into both Thailand and Asia’s personality.

The chancellor applauded its reputation as a masterpiece of Rattanakosin-era architecture, which later developed into a model for the time.

This month, Thailand did send the election letter to the World Heritage Center in Paris, ahead of their scheduled meeting in June and July.

The Minister stated that the Fine Arts Department would support Wat Arun in getting ready for the cautious listing, especially in the wake of the March 28 earthquake.

In order to evaluate the construction methods and ensure architectural stability, as well as keeping the temple’s historical sites in accordance with international standards, this includes conducting historic surveys around the prang.

Wat Arun is required to send a preliminary assessment by September 15th of the following year once it is on the cautious list for the year.

The World Heritage Centre will make its first findings in October, and a whole election report must be submitted within five times.
