Two people were killed when Typhoon Gaemi blew through northern Taiwan on Thursday ( Jul 25 ), causing floods and causing traffic snarls, before heading across the sea to China, where it is anticipated to continue to pour torrential rain.
On Taiwan’s northeast coast, in Yilan region, Gaemi made landfall at midnight on April 24. According to the Central Weather Administration, it is the strongest storms to hit the beach in eight years and was able to travel at speeds of up to 227 kilometers per hour before strengthening.
As of 8.30am native period, it was in the Taiwan Strait and heading toward Fuzhou in China’s Fujian state.
Offices, schools, and the financial markets are expected to be closed for a next time on Thursday due to it continuing to rain across Taiwan.
All domestic airlines and 185 international flights will be canceled for the day, including the high-speed column that connects northern and southern Taiwan until 3 p.m.
Two people have died and 266 were injured due to the storms, the state said. Images of flooded streets were broadcast on Japanese television stations throughout cities and counties on the island.
