Truck rear-ends 15 vehicles, one person killed

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A 22-wheel trailer pickup truck with a drunk operater at the wheel crashed into 15 other vehicles on a down hill stretch of the Mitrapap highway in Pak Chong district on Sunday night, killing one person and injuring six others, police said.

The accident happened about 7. 20pm on the Saraburi-bound aspect of the highway among kilometre markers 36-37 in tambon Phayayen. It caused about two hours of traffic congestion.

The Surat Thani-registered trailer vehicle, loaded with river rocks for landscaping, has been running downhill and ran into 15 other vehicles traveling ahead of it — two vans, 4 pickups and nine sedans. One traveler was killed plus six others wounded. The injured were admitted to Muak Lek Hospital.

The pickup truck driver, identified just as Anusorn, forty two, was taken to Klang Dong police station for questioning. Police said he had the blood-alcohol level of three hundred mg/dL, far more than the 50 mg/dL limit.

He was charged with drink-driving plus recklessness causing loss of life and injuries plus property damage.
