Tourist spots gear up for holiday week

Surat Thani: More than 70, 000 visitors to popular places are expected to bring within about 833 million baht during the long holiday next week, says Nanthawan Siripoksapat, director of the Tourism Power of Thailand’s Surat Thani office.

An average invest of 3, 121 baht per head per day is likely to be powered by a Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan, scuba-diving close to Koh Tao, reducing of Covid-19 restrictions, and the government’s “We Travel Together” scheme which offers savings on hotel bookings.

However , Mister Nanthawan said that higher fuel prices can be a turn-off for some throughout the period which marks Asarnha Bucha upon July 13 plus Buddhist Lent upon July 14.

Local workers said tourists began arriving in Surat Thani this weekend, with many having taken Monday and Wednesday off work to obtain a nine-day holiday.

Meanwhile, Apichart Limsuwan, mayor associated with tambon Koh Phangan, yesterday announced a brand new ferry service, Don Sak pier–Koh Phangan, is expected to become launched by the end from the month.

Mr Apichart said the local office has reached an agreement with Seatran Ferry Company to run four excursions a day. Currently there is only one service owner.

Recently Koh Phangan was selected as the world’s best destination for “workations” this year by the Bill Russell website, and the ranking is seen by locals as underscoring the island’s potential to become a top location.

Furthermore, Surat Thani provincial authorities have decided in order to ask Seatran Ferry Co and Raja Ferry Co which usually operate services among Don Sak and Koh Sumui to keep their fares for six months.

The proposal will be forwarded to various specialists for consideration.
