Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has launched the first phase of its 5G services called UNI5G unlimited 5G data to existing Unifi Mobile Postpaid, new postpaid and prepaid customers.
In a statement, the telco said prepaid customers subscribe to the Unifi Bebas Monthly pass at US$7.35 (RM35) per month and claim the Unlimited 5G Data Pass through the app.
“5G wil reinforce TM’s leadership in fixed-mobile converged services for our consumer and micro small and medium enteprise (SME) segments, strengthening our mobile capabilities to provide the widest and fastest all-in-one solution for fixed broadband, mobile service and digital content that meets today’s digital lifestyles and workstyles,” said Imri Mokhtar (pic, above), TM Group chief executive officer.
To receive 5G on postpaid, customers need a subscription to the Ultimate Plan. Currently, it is on offer for US$12.40 (RM59) per month with a 12-month contract or US$16.60 (RM79) a month without a contract.
TM said not all devices are compatible with the current 5G and users have to check to see if their phones are. A full list of this is found on the Unifi website.
At the same time, TM will also offer bundled 5G service-and-device plans to entice its customers to adopt 5G, the firm said.
According to TM, more than 33% of populated areas throughout Malaysia are covered by 5G. Currently, TM’s Unifi convergence includes 3 million households and close to 400,000 micro small and medium enterprise (SME) customers.
Meanwhile, TM One, its enterprise and Government sector arm, recently launched its 5G Sphere, a circle of technology and smart solution partners to co-create 5G use cases and make them a reality. To date, there are 39 partners in this programme.
