Three prison stints in 14 years, but this Singaporean never gave up on his education and career dreams

STILL ON A Voyage

After receiving financial aid a long time ago, Fairizal now wants to pursue additional research, this time with Yellow Ribbon’s support.

The program has agreed to cover the cost of the graduate student’s company management course costs.

” Up to today, they are also supporting me”, he said.

Fairizal is currently searching for the right college, with an eye on finally getting a master’s degree.

He gives up by giving about four inspiring conversations in schools and prisons each quarter in addition to his personal development.

He also maintains contact with former associates and tries to persuade them to abandon a drug- and gang-free existence.

” I told them,’ Believe me, when you achieve something like a great job and steady money, by then you will have the fear of getting yourself involved in difficulty, because you will lose all of this ‘”, said Fairizal.

Some of them, who he helped, have found employment and become more aware about avoiding trouble.

” If we go to a club, they may show me,’ Fai, if there’s any difficulty, I go up first. I do n’t want to be involved because tomorrow I have to work ‘”, he said.

Fairizal married in 2016 and has a seven-year-old girl and a seven-month-old boy.

He worries that his children may become subject to the same forces he faced as a student. He still wants them to have a chance to grow up, but he wo n’t be overly parent, because he believes that learning from mistakes is a part of life.

” At the same time, I did keep a close look out for them”, he said. ” Just to make sure they do n’t take the wrong turn,” the statement read.
