In Chatuchak area, thousands of animals are thought to have been killed, including several pricey wild kinds, as a result of a fire that raged through a pet store early on Tuesday night.

The blaze at Sri Somrat industry, where there were 118 animal shops spread over 1,400 square meters, started around 4.10 am, according to the Chatuchak neighborhood office. On Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road, the business is located behind the JJ Mall buying center.

Firefighters from a number of regional channels rushed to the scene and took about 30 minutes to put out the fire.

Vendors said they lost a large number of species, including elegant fish, animals, dogs, birds and primates, and exotic varieties priced at five to six figures of ringgit each.

One vendor claimed the fire started in a doggie store where the owners typically left their electric fans on all day to provide the animals ‘ satisfaction. The seller claimed that the flames, which spread through the marketplace area, had killed thousands of animals.

To get help, representatives from the Chatuchak city company were assessing the damage to the business and to individual sellers.
