Thousands evacuated as record rains pound northern Japan

Tokyo: According to officials and media reports from Friday ( Jul 26 ), record heavy rain forced the evacuation of thousands of people across parts of northern Japan as rivers burst their banks wreak havoc on bridges and cars.

In Yamagata and Akita regions on the major area of Honshu, at least one person was killed and four people are still missing.

A 60-year-old person was reported missing after a disaster at roadworks in Yuzawa City, while an 86-year-old person was unknown for after being last seen on a riverbank in Akita City, according to authorities.

One body was found in Akita City, press reports said.

Three folks, including two police officers who were on a quest searching for a missing person, are unaccounted for, according to a local official in Yamagata, where two river burst their banks.
