Thailand lifts COVID-19 face mask mandate for indoor, outdoor settings

BANGKOK: The Thai govt has lifted the mask mandate along with immediate effect because the COVID-19 situation in the nation improved,   according to an announcement  agreed upon by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

“The wearing of hygienic or even cloth masks shall be voluntary, ” read the announcement, which was released in the Royal Gazette on Thursday (Jun 23).  

The lifting of the mask requirement pertains to both indoor and outdoor spaces, an official source on the Public Health Ministry told CNA.

However , the ministry still advised people to wear masks with crowded places or areas, where social distancing is not probable or the ventilation is not good, according to the statement in the Royal Gazette.

For those who are in high risk of severe COVID-19 symptoms or even death  such as people aged 60 and above, pregnant women, and persons with malignancy, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases or chronic kidney condition,   they are still advised to keep putting on masks properly anytime there are other people close to.

The same recommendations applies to COVID-19-infected people and high-risk connections as well as people with respiratory system diseases.

According to the announcement, the public is encouraged to consider the benefits of proper mask putting on when it comes to preventing the transmission of illnesses, including COVID-19 and other respiratory tract infections, plus reducing other health risks.
