BANGKOK: Thailand has approved Western Digital’s 23.5 billion baht ( US$ 693 million ) project to expand hard disk production in the country, Thailand’s Board of Investment ( BOI ) said on Monday ( Aug 26 ), as cloud technology and data centre demand grows.
The investment may increase the Thai economy by boosting exports worthwhile$ 200 billion baht annually and creating an additional 10,000 jobs, according to the BOI.
Western Digital’s Thai ability already employs 28, 000 persons in Thailand, where some 80 per cent of the country’s hard disks are made, according to the BOI.
