Thailand aims for Formula 1 street race in 2028: PM Paetongtarn

Bangkok: On Tuesday ( Mar 18 ), Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, met with Stefano Domenicali, the country’s top driver, and promised to launch a feasibility study into holding Grand Prix competitions in Bangkok from 2028.

Formula 1 currently has a busy routine with 24 races scheduled around the world, four of which are in the Asia-Pacific area, including the Singapore Grand Prix in Southeast Asia.

Thailand has a record in Buriram, north of Thailand, that is FIA-accredited and where a round of the MotoGP riding world championships is currently being held. However, a street race is being considered for the kingdom’s capital.

After meeting with Domenicali at Government House, the Thai Prime Minister gave the meet the opportunity to discuss the possibility of hosting the Formula 1 culture, which is a fantastic game with a global following.

The government stated that it would examine the purchase, including the feasibility of the competition route, the budget, and the benefits Thailand would get from hosting the race.

Paetongtarn said she believed holding a race would provide an opportunity to improve Bangkok’s infrastructure, since the town’s roads are infamously blocked, and draw more tourists from worldwide, especially those who are looking to enter the “high-end” market.

” I think everyone in Thailand will gain from organizing this occasion, whether it’s promoting new income generation, job creation, or importing new technologies and innovations,” she continued.

” I’m convinced that this task will succeed,” he said. Another significant opportunity for the nation to organize a world-class function is present.

The ideas for a Bangkok contest were described as “impressive,” according to Formula One CEO Domenicali, who also posted a statement on X.

” I look forward to continuing our debate in the weeks and months…,” the Italian said.
