Taxi demand during new weekend peak period ‘as high’ as weekday equivalent, says ComfortDelGro

SINGAPORE: According to taxi operator ComfortDelGro on Thursday ( Dec 7 ), demand for cabs is” as high” during the new weekend and public holiday peak times as it is during weekday peak hours.

It was announced on Wednesday that starting next month, taxi fares for journeys between 10am and 1.59pm on weekends and public holidays may be subject to a surcharge. For a fee will also be implemented by Premier Taxis and Trans- limo.

In response to a CNA query, ComfortDelGro stated that” the demand is much stronger relative to off-peak hours and as high as commuting peak hours on weekdays” between 10am ( and ) 1.59pm on weekends and public holidays.

Additionally, the company will increase the night peak hour fine period for all taxis by one hour to include the entire 5pm to 11.59pm everyday range, including people holidays. The latest maximum time period begins at six o’clock.

The current maximum hour for weekdays, 6am to 9.29am, is unaltered. 25 % of the prepaid suffer goes toward the peak hour surcharge.

In an effort to assist drivers in covering higher operating costs brought on by rising fuel prices, high inflation, and the impending Goods and Services Tax hike, ComfortDelGro also announced that it would raise its flagdown fare by S$ 0.50 ( US$ 0.37 ).

This does apply to the entire fleet, excluding vehicles for limousines. The distance and waiting period rates may also increase by S$ 0.01, and they will now be S$ 0.26.

Every 400 meters or less after the first kilometer up to 10 kilometers, every 350 meters after 10 km, and every 45 hours after waiting, are charged range and waiting time levels.
