Taiwan warns of storm surge from powerful Typhoon Krathon, mobilises troops

Taiwan mobilized nearly 40,000 troops on Tuesday ( October 1 ) to aid in rescue efforts as Typhoon Krathon, which is expected to bring a storm surge to its populous southwest coast, was quickly followed by a search by the coast guard.

Typhoons frequently land on Taiwan’s level western simple, but they typically do so along its hilly and sparsely populated eastern coast facing the Pacific.
