Singapore scam victims lost less money on average this year compared with 2023: Global anti-scam alliance

Cybercriminals OPERATE LIKES COMMERCIAL BUSINESSES

It comes as no surprise that scammers will utilize people who spend a lot of their time on messaging and social media platforms, according to EY Steve Lam, ASEAN security chief at consulting company.

Swindlers operate like business businesses, he noted.

Their behavior is not very different from what you would do if you were a trustworthy company person, they say. You get out there, you try to ( reach out ) to as many people as you can, get them to know about your products, get them interested, get them to connect with you”, he told CNA’s Singapore Tonight.

In Singapore, swindlers connected with 40 per cent of their patients through social media, while 40 per cent of schemes were performed via institution transport, according to the GASA statement. &nbsp,

According to GASA managing director Jorij Abraham, many nations are simply becoming aware that schemes are a major issue.

On the sidelines of the anti-scam summit, he told CNA’s Syahida Othman,” We see in many countries that the number of law enforcement officers fighting scammers is residual compared to the number of reports, but we’re just at the beginning, where several countries have to make a big catch away.” &nbsp,

He added that this is because the majority of those who are conned do n’t report it.

” They are however afraid, but it’s a murder and it should be reported”.

Crisis RISK REDUCTION FINANCING

Southeast Asia, which is sensitive to rising sea levels, storms, heatwaves and floods, faces difficulties when it comes to financing weather action, said watchers at the SIEW conference. &nbsp,

” If you look at reactive financing, clearly there is significant financing that’s going on, after ( a disaster ) has taken place”, said Dr Ramesh Subramaniam, director general and group chief of the sectors group at the Asian Development Bank ( ADB). &nbsp,

” But the problem that we face is that, in terms of allocating from your macroeconomic resources, a certain percentage of the funds to be ready to face catastrophe, that has been quite, quite slow”, he told CNA.

” And if you look at healthcare industry, I would say it’s about non-existent”.

Next month, the lender approved a new purpose to give climate finance 50 % of its monthly loans by 2030.

Dr. Subramaniam touched on the creation of a loss and damage account during the meeting and mentioned the COP28 climate summit in Dubai last year, stating that it is” a very important first action” in helping less-developed nations.

” We are very positive that there’ll get momentum”, he said, calling for more aid beyond what has been pledged by developed countries. &nbsp,

” Evidently, in terms of funding, the problem that we face is that given the scale of tragedies, no amount of funding is going to be enough”.

Teenager who killed River Valley High schoolmate with axe loses appeal for shorter jail term

Warning: This history contains links to death.

A teenager in Singapore was sentenced to 16 years in prison for killing his classmate with an axe at River Valley High School, but his appeal was denied on Wednesday ( October 23 ), and his sentence was not reduced.

The girl, who turned 19 this year and never be named as he was 16 at the time of the shooting, had asked for eight to 10 times ‘ prison instead. &nbsp,

The Court of Appeal noted that his idea approach was rational and that he was aware of the nature and perverseness of his deeds when it dismissed the charm.

The three-judge judge furthermore noted that the unhappy girl had refused to get help and that there was no justification for the retribution principle to be applied in this case.

His defense lawyer said he would not get pursuing other options, such as political clemency, in response to questions from CNA.

In an unparalleled murder that shocked the country, the girl attacked 13-year-old Ethan Hun Zhe Kai in a school bathroom on July 19, 2021.

Ethan was a strange destination and was subsequently attacked from the rear after the predator posted a tape to avert other people from entering.

The criminal called the police after and said:” I only killed someone. With an knife. I do n’t know who. Do you plan to give one or not?”

The shooting was a part of what the sentencing judge referred to as his” twisted strategy,” which included killing more than one person in a rampage in order to force the police to choose whether to take him in the head.

HIS MENTAL State

After the Institute of Mental Health ( IMH) determined that the offender had a significant depressive disorder at the time, the charge was dropped to culpable homicide.

He was significantly impacted by the disorder’s ability to determine whether his actions were wrong, and the defense of less duty was applied to him, lowering the cost.

He had previous court appearances as a client at IMH, and he had previously attempted murder twice, including at the age of 14, half.

The trial had sought 12 to 16 years ‘ jail, while the army sought five decades.

According to an IMH review, the offender understood that his actions were morally and legally wrong, yet with his depression, and that he still had control over his actions.

The sentencing judge noted that the defendant” consciously decided to kill in school” because he believed that the latter would have a higher chance of executing one before being subdued in people.

In organizing and preparing for the killing, Justice Hoo Sheau Peng said the offender “exhibited a cold degree of malice and warm logic” and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.

He picked arms, tested and sharpened them, and practiced using them to their full potential by watching movies.

He also had the school’s floor plan pictures on his cellular phone, chose the lavatory site because it was far away from his classroom, and had already put the weapons in storage.

In her justification, Justice Hoo stated that” His whole program was premised on his eager attention that what he planned to do would be so absurd and brutal that it could not but inspire a destructive response from law enforcement officers.

According to Mr. Sunil Sudheesan and Ms. Joyce Khoo of Quahe Woo &amp, Palmer, 16 times was a crushing punishment for the younger criminal. &nbsp,

In a notice to Ethan’s family, they focused their claims on the limiting value of their client’s emotional illness, his treatment options, and the intense grief he expressed.

Dealing with your partner’s midlife crisis: How wives can help husbands navigate this period

This even entails developing mutual forgiveness for one another’s flaws and resolving potential conflicts, Mundae said.

Consider setting creative shared goals to shift the focus away from the negative thoughts. For instance, begin a new activity along or work on a shared job, like refreshing a room in the house.

Doing this helps your husband and wife relationship as you both find pleasure in new experiences that you both have, Mundae said.

Remember to celebrate both small victories and major milestones at once, from individual successes to expressed successes, emphasized Dr. Chow.

GETTING PROFESSIONAL HELP

Asking for expert help, whether it be for people or specific remedy, is unavoidable.

According to Dr. Chow, individual therapy would be a good place to start to analyze and handle the feelings and thoughts that were present. Women are frequently involved in their partner’s personal remedy journey, especially if they want to understand how to help their husbands.

Couples counseling, on the other hand, can be helpful if the changes that have been experienced are affecting the marriage because it provides a safe place for both parties to communicate their needs and work toward solutions, Mundae said. ” It can increase communication, align beliefs and develop mutual development”.

Mundae added that it is also helpful to redefine “midlife issue” into “midlife transition”, which shifts the target towards personal growth and version.

Unfortunately, what makes everything “bad” for us is if it does more damage than good in the long run. A existential crisis might not seem that bad after all if we choose to concentrate on the good, such as a re-evaluation of our individual principles and interests, re-invention of ourselves for the vision we have, and a greater appreciation for what matters most to us, said Dr. Chow.

‘Sex slave to my husband’: A Singaporean’s 18-year ordeal in a Malaysian cult-linked group

HUSBAND HAS” Total” Right OVER WIFE

In 2007, on the pretext of” saving” her from rebellion and external influence, GISB forced her to marry a man 10 years her senior, who was also the son of an active and influential part, said Zoey.

” My lips made me want to marry,” I said. because I immediately disagreed with their wants.

The then-adolescent married without the parents ‘ consent or appearance. Before a solemnization can take place, the bride’s parents must give approval under Islamic law in Singapore and Malaysia, or in his absence, a member of the family’s equal authority. &nbsp,

When she asked what would happen if she did n’t marry the man, GISB threatened to kick her mother– who was then a strong believer&nbsp, – out of the community. &nbsp,

The gentleman kicked and hit Zoey in Penang a week later when the pair relocated there. She claimed that he continued to do so even though she was expecting his baby. &nbsp,

” While I was female all the way until I gave birth, whenever he wants to have sex, at any time, I have to say yes”, said Zoey. &nbsp,

Over the years, GISB leaders have been quoted claiming that&nbsp, physical skills took a back seat in marriage, beyond that of cliched” excellent mother or great cook” roles.

The eldest daughter of Abuya’s princess has also made a statement to Malaysian press that she was forced into marriage with a GISB head following her father’s passing and was subjected to physical abuse from senior members of the organization. Ummu Atiyyah, then 41, said earlier this month that she was beaten, burned with a lighter, locked in a place, submerged in a lake and forced to remove among other crimes.

Three years into her marriage, Zoey went to the police, and even sought to leave the man.

But she said her father-in-law&nbsp, told her to remove her statement, promising&nbsp, that his brother would change. &nbsp,

” He also said that a divorce will bring shame to ( GISB )”, said Zoey. &nbsp,

She said that her ex-husband also told her that before a woman turns 21, her spouse has “absolute caregiving rights” over her, and that if the husband does n’t want a divorce, there’s nothing the wife can do. &nbsp,

She tried once more with the person in 2014 after having four children with him.

But this time it was her own family who discouraged her from doing so, according to Zoey, who remains&nbsp, doubtful if her grandmother was simply carrying out GISB’s purchases.

Over the years, she said she continued to speak out about her maltreatment, also showing a photo of her wounds to her family as well as GISB’s senior management, including Abuya’s family. But her screams reportedly went ignored. &nbsp,

“(GISB leaders ) kept telling me, your husband is your path to heaven” .&nbsp,

Zoey claimed that she tried taking contraceptives, but another users objected because they thought it was against their faith.

Over the following seven years, she would include five more babies.
