Rats making their home at Singapore’s Bird Paradise despite cages, traps and rodenticide

Mr Lian Szu-Jin, who visited the park on Nov 18, 2024, with her partner, said they noticed animals scurrying around in places off the road and raised programs. &nbsp,

The 29-year-old public servant said,” At first, I thought it might be some other squirrel that was meant to be part of the wall, but we later realized that these rodents were definitely parasites.”

She continued, “quite a bit” of rats were present, and the couple had even hear them squeaking at some cages. &nbsp,

This writer also saw animals, largely off designated commuter walkways. The rodents were spotted in five of the eight walk-through aviaries CNA visited on Monday ( Feb 10 ).

Nearly all of the birds had classic wire cages and black boxes with rat holes as traps. These were more frequently observed in regions where rabbits were more prevalent. &nbsp,

Some boxes had the phrases “rodenticide”, “poison”, “rodent fish place” or “glue bait” stencilled across. The only clear wires cages were. &nbsp,

Commentary: The CMIO model is still useful for favoured policy outcomes, but it shouldn’t define our identities

Residents WANT WHAT, WHAT?

In the latest 2024 Institute of Policy Studies ( IPS) survey on Race, Religion, and Language that polled 4, 000 Singaporean residents, when asked whether to keep, remove or change the CMIO framework, as many as one in five respondents ( 22 per cent ) chose the” not sure” option.

Maybe a significant portion of the populace has not given this subject many believe or has accepted that it is extremely complicated. &nbsp,

Among those with an opinion on the CMIO framework, 7.7 per cent wanted it removed ( compared with 12 per cent in 2018 ). &nbsp,

However, nearly six in 10 ( 58.1 per cent ) want the framework to stay, up from 46.2 per cent in 2018. This contrasts favorably with a CNA-IPS poll conducted in 2022, in which 63 % of the 2, 000 people surveyed believed that the CMIO framework was effective in preserving racial harmony.

Additionally, a significant portion of respondents ( 32.1 per cent ) want the CMIO framework to be expanded to be more inclusive. &nbsp,

The CMIO model may be modified or completely removed, but the 2024 study indicates that the majority also desires the framework’s policy outcomes. More than eight in ten respondents concur that it is crucial for immigration plan to keep the racial makeup of the people. It is important to know how many people of each competition live in Singapore, according to the majority of the respondents. &nbsp,

A more 84.8 percent of lawmakers concurred that it is crucial to have a proportionate representation of minorities in congress. Without some sort of platform that categorizes the people based on cultural history, such as the nine in ten who support ensuring a racial mixture in the neighborhood, any outcome would not be possible.

Indeed, K Shanmugam, the minister of law and home affairs, had earlier stated in parliament on February 5 that” the CMIO ( framework ) is a key plank of those policies” and that it “has contributed to forging the harmonious set of racial relations in our society today.”

At the IPS 35th Anniversary Conference in 2023, Mr. Shanmugam also noted that maintaining the CMIO woman’s dimensions was of particular importance to the Asian area because it gives the guarantee that” they are not going to be overtaken.” &nbsp,

Such procedures may have unintended effects, but their wider purpose seems to be the foundation for benefits that Singaporeans want and value. &nbsp,

As Singapore’s political parties gear up for post-pandemic election, printing firms await business boom

As individuals try to grab the electors ‘ focus as much as possible, industry players told CNA that they naturally receive more purchases in hotly contested districts.

Some Group Representation Constituencies ( GRCs ), which currently hold four or five seats, have the ability to order more than a million pamphlets, according to Mr. Ang.

” Usually, PAP versus WP GRCs are fiercely contested and therefore might see much more purchases”, explained Mr Ang. In the 2020 competition, the two factions faced off in Aljunied, Marine Parade, Sengkang and East Coast GRCs.

A PERSONAL TOUCH

In 2020, over 85 per cent of what all prospects spent went towards advertisements, according to Elections Department data.

Of that amount, write election advertising formed the lot, totaling to S$ 5.6 million. &nbsp,

Mr. Ang claimed that flyers were especially important when approaching doors.

” If no one is home, the brochure may be slotted into the house. Your vacation will not be wasted”, he said.

Terence Lee, a adjunct professor of media and interaction at Murdoch University, stated to CNA that research indicates that face-to-face or natural forms of human communication are usually more eloquent than online forms.

” In much the same method a’ life’ music concert generates’ fan’ support, the same is correct for actual election campaigning.

And this includes going out to join people and handing out flyers, regardless of whether they are read, Adj Prof. Lee said.

However, advertisements on designated areas are limited to the public during the fighting period, which begins on Nomination Day and the day before the election day begins.

When it comes to member recognition, Adj Prof Lee claimed that the new challengers in a ward need such visuals more than the former MPs.

SINGAPORE: Changes will be made to the leadership of the People’s Action Party ( PAP ) branches in the Workers ‘ Party-held wards of Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC, the party announced on Thursday ( Feb 13 ).

On February 17, before the 2025 General Election, four political outsiders will assume the position of tree chairman across four divisions.

When standard elections are in these wards, the party’s candidates are usually the party’s candidates.

CNA first reported on the upcoming change on Tuesday, reporting on the resignations of Paya Lebar tree seat Kenny Sim and Bedok Reservoir-Punggol tree seat Victor Lye.

CHANGES IN OPPOSITION-HELD WARDS

Jackson Lam, the current president, will be replaced by Mr. Marshall Lim in Hougang, who took the position in October 2023.

Teachers are not here to serve parents but to be partners in a child’s education, says Chan Chun Sing

According to Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing, educators should be treated as partners in a child’s education and not as service companies fulfilling parental expectations. &nbsp,

In an appointment with CNA Digital in January, Mr. Chan addressed the changing needs of teachers, noting that the majority of parents overstep expectations or set unrealistic goals.

” It is not a service-client perspective, where I expect this and you deliver it to me”, said Mr Chan, stressing that youngsters spend more time with their families than at university. ” As parents, we are all the first teachers of our children” .&nbsp,

In an interview with CNA, the minister looked up at education policies in place at the end of the present administration. In September 2024, he said MOE may defend teachers from “unreasonable anticipation” and carry that affect their well-being. For instance, teachers should not be expected to respond to work-related information outside school time except in emergencies. &nbsp,

Parents who make unreasonable demands on teachers are treating other students and parents unfairly, Mr. Chan said in the discussion. &nbsp,

According to MOE, teachers and school officials should first try to manage it because parents must adhere to the university’s rules, he continued. &nbsp,

If parents are allowed to pass the school’s power and rise cases to the secretary, prime minister or the media, they will prevent respecting the college, said Mr Chan. &nbsp,

To maintain frivolous families, MOE has dedicated groups in place. Not every college will be able to manage police reports, lawyer letters, and other similar documents, he said.

He continued, saying that allowing the teacher to handle these cases was harsh and detrimental to their work-life balance and mental health. &nbsp,

Mr. Chan assured faculty that MOE may support them. Professors may not be perfect, but he has faith and confidence in how they handle such circumstances, he said. &nbsp,

More accurate, efficient knee replacement surgery at Alexandra Hospital with new AI algorithm

AUTOMATING A MANUAL PROCESS

Speaking to CNA’s Singapore Tonight, Dr Glen Liau, who is part of the team that developed the engine, noted that there are many permutations and combinations for the location of an implant.

For example, a hip part bone implant- one of two implants that are often placed in the knee- may be moved up or down, turned in or out, flexed or extended, and internally or externally rotated, he explained. &nbsp,

” Our engine is able to consider the dozens of variations and within 0.1 moments, rate them according to the patient’s unique, certain anatomy and the surgeon’s objectives”, he said.

” By doing so, we hope to achieve the most optimal implant place that is planned for a person who is having mechanical leg surgery.”

Now, this process is done personally, and takes up about 15 days, AH said.

” Under day pressure, surgeons may analyze only two or three options before settling on one to apply, and this is not ideal, in an operating theatre setting with the patient on the surgery table under public anaesthesia”, AH added.
