‘It almost feels like home’: How these gamers found their tribe in Singapore’s arcades

ARCADES AS A Cultural HUB

With constantly evolving and rapidly evolving gaming systems, malls have developed more sophisticated and engaging activities. For instance, Timezone has integrated VR and engaging games to provide its customers with interactive experience.

And one of the most notable changes, both from the athletes ‘ and the entrance staff’s, is how much more socially engaged the spaces have become.

The head of advertising for Timezone Singapore, Jacquline Ong, said,” We now see a broader age range, from people and young kids to adults and even elderly enjoying our locations. From the younger to the old, our goal has always been to spread joy and make wonderful moments, and we continue to do so through the design of our surroundings, making sure there is something for everyone.

Additionally, Lim has noticed a change in how individuals perceive arcadegoers.

” Malls were frequently frowned upon as places for’childish’ people back then. I think that today’s malls have evolved into cultural gathering places where friends and people can form lasting friendships. They offer a fun shop that makes arcades more enjoyable, especially in Singapore, where all leads busy lives, and they both entertain both adults and children.

‘Will never withdraw’: DAP’s Lim Guan Eng rubbishes claims that he’s pulling out of party polls

The vote on Sunday is a high-stakes one for DAP, which is a crucial part of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government, according to CNA.

The original purpose of the election was to elect a primary leadership team for the party’s upcoming general election, which must take place before February 2028. &nbsp,

However, it has since turned into a life evaluation for Lim and his mother’s political dynasty because he is the son of fiery politician Lim Kit Siang.

A group of innovative officials led by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who is the group’s secretary-general, are challenging the Lim family’s long-standing dominance of the DAP.

The vote will begin with statements from Lim Guan Eng and Loke, according to Malay Mail, and coincide with the group’s 18th National Congress.

4, 203 representatives from 1, 650 trees are qualified to take part in the CEC’s election. The CEC people will therefore separately cast their ballots for three-year terms in management positions.

Lim made the point last week that his group members must decide his political potential. His remarks came after United Malays National Organization ( UMNO ) president and vice president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested Lim’s political era had ended and demanded that he step down.

According to Malay Mail, Zahid made his statement after Lim criticized UMNO’s plan to hold a joint march in solidarity with ex-prime minister Najib Razak.

What spending hours with strangers, without my smartphone, revealed about facing discomfort

To be clear, the Black Mirror SG strategy doesn’t advocate for a complete abandonment of social media or a return to the Stone Age.

Being able to communicate online is a comfort, particularly in Singapore, where the tradition demands that you be available for phone calls 24/7. However, this equilibrium must exist, Chiang Yang said. &nbsp,

” Alas, you have to be online because our services are online, and information sources are changing their ways. It’s challenging to lead a totally isolated or private life, especially if you’re living alone.

However, I don’t think the main goal of disconnecting is to communicate with others. More broadly speaking, it is about doing the tough work of real consideration.

They have taken since much, perhaps more than what smartphones and social media have given them. A handset or social media addiction is, in my opinion, a total waste of time. &nbsp,

The required labor of questioning our preconceptions and thoughts, deciding our personal beliefs and values, building relationships with people, not personalities, and being human is provided by having access to the largest collection in the world in a matter of seconds.

When I need a perspective on a social trend, use a persistent virtual model to identify a complicated global issue, or concentrate on ChatGPT to include nuance to my articles, TikTok or YouTube is simpler. And consider me, I’m always drawn to great conventional thinking. &nbsp,

Instead of wracking my brain for something to claim or learn to sit in complete silence during a conversation that was pause in the evening, it would have been simpler to skim through social media whenever there was a break in conversation. &nbsp,

However, in the era of extreme ease, I frequently believe that the problems of a process is. The energy is the purpose.

GE2025: For voters in redrawn GRCs, municipal issues are key but some misgivings over perceived gerrymandering

MacPherson and Mountbatten are located next to Kembangan-Chai Chee, Joo Chiat, Marine Parade, Geylang Serai, and Braddell Heights, respectively, in the Marine Parade Town Council.

Nevertheless, a few people stated that they would have to evaluate the performance of other individuals in Marine Parade and their plans for the GRC.

After past Parliamentarian Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin resigned in July 2023, the current PAP team includes Manpower Minister Tan See Leng, Mr. Seah Kian Peng, Mr. Fahmi Aliman, and Mr. With his recent ward, Mr. Tong, who is MP for the Joo Chiat division, might relocate to East Coast GRC.

Ms. Wan Salwa, 62, who resides in MacPherson’s Circuit Road neighborhood, said she will wait to see who the last individuals are in terms of popularity.

We need to see who will take the place of the Members and grass, and who will be serving you, she said.

Some people, however, had the impression that the change might have been caused by political factors rather than simply demographic adjustments.

Mr. Ng, a 23-year-old scholar, claimed that despite being not quite politically involved, it is more difficult for the opposition to challenge in a GRC. He said,” Hopefully, that’s not the reason ( for the change ).”

The 66-year-old retiree Mr. Kua Kok Wah summed up his opinion in the Hokkien phrase” Bo bian ( no choice ).” Marine Parade must be saved, please.

When asked why Marine Parade GRC needs to be” saved,” he responded in Mandarin that Ms Tin’s vote share in MacPherson is high and will help to boost the GRC’s vote share.

Malay community leaders, MPs speak out against activists who disrupted Meet-The-People Sessions

SINGAPORE: Members of Parliament ( MPs ) and members of the Malay community have spoken out against the activists who have canceled Meet-the-People sessions recently. &nbsp,

Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam shared a video of himself speaking with two female activists wearing face masks and shirts that read “press” on Thursday ( Mar 13 ). &nbsp,

The two activists are a group that has been organizing Meet-the-People sessions for People’s Action Party ( PAP ) because he claims they are “deliberately confrontational, create incidents, try and provoke,” he said in his post. &nbsp,

A PAP director responded to CNA’s questions by stating that the party calls itself Monday of Palestine Solidarity in his Instagram post, though Mr. Shanmugam did not identify the party.

The group visited a Meet-The-People Session in Pasir Ris East, according to Mr. Sharael Taha ( PAP-Pasir Ris-Punggol ). &nbsp,

Their actions, including being harsh to the volunteers and making hurtful remarks about their families, demonstrate that they were not really motivated to engage in meaningful, constructive dialogue that might actually advance the cause, he wrote on Instagram. &nbsp,

The team’s actions, including their crude movements, do not adhere to the values of the Muslim group, according to Mr. Sharael, adding that the focus is still on offering “real, visible support” to the people of Gaza. &nbsp,

He noted that the M3 Aid for Gaza fundraiser has raised more than S$ 300, 000 ( US$ 224, 570 ) since the beginning of Ramadan. On March 21 at 10 p.m., the Ramadan Ride in Aid of Gaza will also be held. &nbsp,

These initiatives add to the S$ 17 million in regional assistance that has already been distributed in seven installments, according to Mr. Sharael. &nbsp,

Conflicts will always exist, he wrote, but we must treat them with respect, compassion, and a shared responsibility to positive change. &nbsp,

The best way to move forward is to unite and concentrate on helping those in need, according to &nbsp.

Mr. Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim ( PAP-Chua Chu Kang ) expressed concern over the recent disruptions at Mr. Shanmugam’s Meet-the-People Session on Thursday. &nbsp,

For problems “precious time” is lost on people who had registered and waited to ask for assistance at the conference, he wrote on Instagram. &nbsp,

We are supposed to be patient, reflect fine figure, and show compassion to others in this holy month of Ramadan, he wrote. &nbsp,

There are legitimate ways and programs to support any cause and offer suggestions on something, but shouting and disrupting MPS at the cost of another Singapore who are also in need is not the right way.

Mohamed Imran Mohamed Taib, an interfaith activist and director of Dialogue Centre, attacked the organization on Twitter for” juvenile activism,” adding that their actions drew attention to their rowdy and disrespectful behavior rather than the problems they are concerned about. &nbsp,

Mr. Imran emphasized that engagement is not about being “heroic,” noting that the party had attempted to discuss Palestine at various Meet-The-People Sessions. &nbsp,

He claimed that “policies are not changed by shouting, marching, and breaking rules” at least in Singapore. &nbsp,

While taking a stand on some plans can be passionate, Mr. Imran said that it’s not about being sarcastic and indignant. &nbsp,

It is” about coercion.” It is about being open to discourse and paying close attention to our adversaries. Sometimes there must be a bargain. Yet a rethink, he wrote. &nbsp,

What these people did at the Meet-The-People Session did not advance their reason, according to Mr. Imran, and instead had the same result. &nbsp,

Some people might have been persuaded by their actions that activists are all the same, he wrote, “antisocial and nearly anarchist.” &nbsp,

Mizi Wahid, the leader of the Singapore Islamic Scholars and Religious Teachers Association, wrote on Twitter that Muslims should be watchful of their actions and strive to become their best selves during the holy month of Ramadan. &nbsp,

According to Mr. Mizi, the leader of the Muslim youth organization Safinah Institute, “insulting, name-calling, profanity in speech, creating a ruckus in public, disturbing our neighbors are actions that our faith despised.” &nbsp,

It is important to remember that the way we express and express our emotions must be in the best way possible when talking about things we believe in and are excited about.

CNA has reached out to Palestine Solidarity for post on Monday.

CNA Explains: What happens if a Singapore-licensed investment platform goes under?

What are the needs for funding systems?

Any company that wants to handle funds needs a money markets services permission from controller MAS, because portfolio management is a “regulated action” under the Securities and Futures Act 2001.

MAS considers elements such as the health, track record and management skills of candidates, as well as business programs and forecasts.

Businesses also need at least two managers, one of whom may be a tenant in Singapore. The agency’s chief executive officer needs to have at least 10 years of related practice, and become a Singapore citizen.

Two full-time, Singapore-based people must also be appointed for each restricted exercise the company wants to conduct.

Which organizations are regulated?

Most important investment systems in Singapore are. This includes businesses like as Endowus, StashAway and Chocolate Finance.

A Financial Institutions Directory can be used to discover out whether a company is regulated or licensed by MAS, though the need for a passport depends on a fund’s business model.

MAS likewise maintains an Investor Alert List. It’s not comprehensive, but includes companies and people who may have been erroneously perceived as being licensed, authorised or regulated.

What does it mean to become licensed?

Businesses licensed by MAS are likely to be in better economic condition, said Professor Sumit Agarwal of the National University of Singapore’s business class.

They are also less likely to decline, and customers don’t have to worry as much if the corporation does go under, he added.

” It gives … the consumer confidence that, appearance, there is some regulatory supervision for the business”, said the doctor of finance, finance and real estate.

How are assets with such companies protected?

For companies with a capital areas companies permit for account management, MAS requires their customers ‘ funds to be separated from the bank’s monies.

Customers ‘ resources must be placed under separate prison. a

And the business is required to put in place a risk management framework as well as provide clear and transparent statements on the conditions of its service.

In the case of Chocolate Finance, customers ‘ monies are held in” isolated, ringfenced records” with the business and Allfunds, a bank distribution system.

Johor’s 5-year plan to be self-reliant for treated water a ‘challenging’ timeline: Analysts

But experts have cautioned that meeting the timeline may become challenging given the scale of design. &nbsp,

They cited that on average, dams usually take about eight years to construct. Even though water treatment plants may be designed and commissioned in two decades, the pools are essential in increasing the volume of natural ocean Johor collects, they added. &nbsp,

However, some are sceptical that the five-year timetable is attainable provided there is assistance from Putrajaya. &nbsp,

” Achieving the precise water resources within five years is a major problem, but not an unattainable one”, water value and modelling professional Zaki Zainuddin told CNA. &nbsp,

He stressed that this problem is particularly serious for Malaysia to maintain Johor aims for self-sufficiency in ocean provide and resources. &nbsp,

” This is especially relevant for Johor ( often regarded as Malaysia’s second or third most developed state ). The necessity is further amplified by Johor’s interests in the data center business”, said Zaki, who is an expert panelist for Malaysia’s Department of Environment and is assistant to economic advisory firms. &nbsp,

Conservation professor Serina Rahman, who is a teacher with the National University of Singapore’s Southeast Asian Studies office, echoed similar views. &nbsp,

She told CNA:” Johor has had an influx of investment in recent years so I think financially ( supporting quick construction of the projects ) might not be a problem- especially if there is top-down support ( from Putrajaya )”.

Serina added that the water deal with Singapore expires in 2061 and that looking ahead to this, it was important for Malaysia and Johor to get impartial in treating its own waters. &nbsp,

” The demand for water in Johor may increase especially with expenditures related to the exclusive economic zone expected to bring people to stay and remain based in Johor. Perhaps Johor is now at a stage of development that enables it to process its own water”, she said. &nbsp,

Earlier this year, Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his Singapore counterpart Lawrence Wong witnessed the exchange of an agreement on the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone ( JS-SEZ ) at the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders ‘ Retreat in Putrajaya.

The JS-SEZ is to be jointly run by Malaysia and Singapore with both countries setting sights on the creation of 20, 000 skilled jobs in the first five years. &nbsp,

DATA CENTRES ‘ EXPANSION MUST BE MANAGED: EXPERTS&nbsp, &nbsp,

Even as the five-year plan to develop the reservoirs and treatment plants is expected to supercharge water supply in Johor once they are completed, analysts CNA spoke to stressed that the state government must be careful in managing the expansion of the data centre industry.

This as the industry is energy-intensive and requires a copious amount and consistent supply of water for cooling systems. &nbsp,

Speaking at an event in July 2024, then-Johor Bahru city council mayor Mohd Noorazam Osman stressed that the current focus on data centres is “understandable” but that the “real issue” in Johor is water and power supply. &nbsp,

” As a local authority, I believe attracting investments is important, but it should not come at the expense of the people’s needs”, he had said. &nbsp,

Johor is on its way to becoming a major data centre hub for Southeast Asia. According to data centre intelligence website DC Byte, the southern state’s data centre capacity has grown from just 10 megawatts ( MW) in 2021 to 1, 500MW in 2024. &nbsp,

” None of them have fled. They are in healthy security. Two of the patients are still being accompanied by their parents, but they do not need to be at a healthy house”, said Ciput Eka Purwianti, the agency’s assistant lieutenant for child safety.

Social employees from Kupang and East Nusa Tenggara territory even continue to provide emotional support to the sufferers. &nbsp,

The government works with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency ( LPSK), the Indonesian Child Protection Commission, the authorities and other infant protection organizations to organize efforts in the country.

This includes the process of interviewing the victims, she said.

The women empowerment ministry also strives to make the investigation process child-friendly by ensuring that investigators do not wear official uniforms that could potentially cause fear or intimidate the victims.

Indonesia’s 2024 National Survey on Children and Adolescents ‘ Life Experiences found that half of those aged 13 to 17 in the country have experienced some form of violence during their lives.

” While statistics on reported sexual assault cases have increased every year, this does not mean that violence has increased but increasing public awareness, which is a good sign”, Ciput added. &nbsp,

” Sexual violence is still an emergency. Non-contact sexual violence has affected 4 per cent of girls and 4 per cent of boys, this figure does not even include contact sexual violence”, she said.

‘No such thing as head of state immunity’: Former ICC judge on Duterte facing murder charges

” DRUG WAR” Murders

Pangalangan, who served in the ICC from 2015 to 2021, said global legal law has evolved” to provide the highest officials of institutions to be accountable for their actions”. &nbsp,

” There is no such item as head of state resistance, and there is no resistance that attaches to the deeds committed by, in this case, President Duterte, even at the moment when he was leader”, he told CNA’s Asia First on Thursday. &nbsp,

Duterte, who arrived at Rotterdam The Hague Airport on a chartered planes on Wednesday, may be brought before an ICC prosecutor in the coming weeks for an initial look, during which the claims may be detailed in jury.

Pangalangan, who is also professor of law at the University of the Philippines, said the second step will be the assurance of claims, where Duterte’s attorneys are expected to make their concerns, including whether the ICC has the authority to investigate the alleged crimes.

Duterte, in a video posted to his Facebook page on Wednesday, said he was prepared to accept responsibility.

His war on drugs campaign defined his presidency from 2016 to 2022. &nbsp,

During his six years in office, about 6, 200 drug suspects were killed, according to the Philippine police. But activist groups believe the real toll was much greater. &nbsp,

The violence led the ICC prosecutor’s office to open a preliminary investigation into deaths in the Philippines in 2018. &nbsp,

Shortly after, Duterte said the country would withdraw from the ICC’s founding treaty, the Rome Statute. The exit took effect in March 2019.

But under the Rome Statute, even if a state withdraws as a member, the ICC retains jurisdiction over crimes committed during the membership period.
