Sony hikes PS5 prices in some markets, US consumers spared

TOKYO: Sony’s PlayStation five is already notoriously difficult to get, and on Aug twenty five the popular console’s manufacturer said that it will also become more expensive for players in many parts of the entire world.

Sony Online Entertainment (SIE) has recommended raising the console’s retail price in Europe, the uk, Japan, China, Quotes, Mexico and Canada, the company’s best official Jim Ryan said.

US consumers will be spared from the hikes, Ryan said, without providing further explanation.

The price rises will see a PS5 Digital Edition retail in Europe intended for €449. 99 (RM2, 012), up from €399. 99 (RM1, 788).

The same console will be sold in the UK just for £389. 99 (RM2, 065), up through £359. 99 (RM1, 906), and in Japan for 49, 478 yen (RM1, 622), up from 43, 978 yen (RM1, 441).

SIE blamed “high global inflation rates along with adverse currency trends” for the price improves.

“Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price of PlayStation five in select markets, ” Ryan stated in a statement.

Sony’s current main concern is to address the supply crunch that has made PS5s hard to buy, he said. – AFP
